The curious case of criticism

I have been fascinated recently by some of the comments on the article on the ABC website.

Comments along the lines that the notion of being a Gentleman was sexist, ageist, or even discriminatory. Perhaps some of the other behavioural characteristics of gentlemen in history may have been, but more due to societal norms I would think.

The notion of being a Gentleman is to be sensitive to the environment, which includes the society you are in and the people who make it up. I think we can treat others well without insulting their capabilities as a fellow human… If we can’t then there is something terribly wrong.

Today’s Gentleman is about redefining what a modern day gentleman should be. Taking the good from the gentlemanly example of old, but leaving the irrelevant, or incompatible elements alone.
